The temperature swing
Namib Desert in winter (June–August): days 25–30°C, nights 0–7°C. A 25–30°C swing is normal. First-time campers underestimate this every single time.
What to sleep in
Thermal base layer + fleece + beanie. The kit sleeping bags are rated comfort 5°C — fine with a fleece, marginal without. Bring a merino base layer; it's the single best piece of cold-weather kit.
Morning routine
Boil the kettle first thing. Stay in the tent for the coffee. By 09:00 it's already 15°C and you can shed layers. By 11:00 you're back in shorts.
Green Season is different
November–March nights stay 18–22°C. You can sleep in shorts and a t-shirt. Easier, but the rain adds its own complications.
