What gets added at the rental desk, what lodges charge extra for, and the small fees that surprise everyone.

    Insurance excess buy-down

The headline rate often shows a NAD 25,000 excess. Buying it down to zero is NAD 200โ€“350 per day. Quote both options upfront โ€” it's the single biggest 'didn't expect that' line.

    One-way fees and after-hours delivery

One-way from Windhoek to Swakopmund: usually NAD 3,500. After-hours airport pickup (post 18:00): NAD 800. Sunday delivery: same. Avoidable if you plan.

    Lodge extras

Drinks are not included in half-board. Game drives at private reserves are usually extra (NAD 800โ€“1,200 pp). Lodge laundry is cheap (NAD 80/load) but billed separately.

    Park fees (updated April 2026)

Etosha and Sossusvlei are now NAD 280 per international adult per day (premium parks โ€” up from NAD 150 before April 2026), plus NAD 60/day vehicle fee. Paid at the gate, NAD cash or card. Build into the budget upfront. Children under 8 enter free.
