The 80 km/h rule is real
Posted limit is 80 km/h on gravel. Treat it as a maximum, not a target. A Hilux on washboard at 100 km/h cannot avoid a kudu โ and a kudu strike at speed is a major accident.
Reading the road
Slow on blind corners, in riverbeds, after rain, and when you see fresh tracks. Washboard sections vibrate the steering โ slow down, don't fight the wheel.
Oncoming traffic
Slow on approach and pull slightly left. A windscreen chip from a stone thrown by an oncoming truck is the #1 insurance claim we see.
Sand and riverbeds
Drop tyre pressure to 1.5 bar (we'll show you how). Drive in 4-high, keep momentum, don't stop in deep sand. If you do stop, deflate further to 1.0 bar.
