Why Namibia birds
Diverse habitats in a single trip — desert, wetland, savannah, coastal lagoon. Several endemics (Dune Lark, Damara Tern, Herero Chat) found almost nowhere else. Green season (Nov–Apr) adds 80+ migratory species.
Top spots
Walvis Bay lagoon (flamingos, pelicans, terns). Etosha pans (raptors, secretarybirds, kori bustard). Caprivi wetlands (African fish eagle, slaty egret). Sesriem (Dune Lark in the dune belt).
Kit
8×42 or 10×42 binoculars. Roberts Bird Guide app (the regional standard). Telephoto 300mm+ if photographing.
Guides
Etosha rangers know the bird hotspots — ask at camp reception. Walvis Bay lagoon has dedicated birding tour operators (Pelican Point Tours).
