Best Time of Year for Etosha Game Viewing

Wildlife concentrates at waterholes in the dry months. But green season has its own magic.

    August to October

Peak game viewing. Etosha is bone-dry, animals must visit waterholes. You sit at one productive hole for an hour and the wildlife comes to you. Lion and rhino activity is at its highest.

    May to July

Excellent. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds before July. Game still concentrates at waterholes. Our quiet favourite window.

    November to April (green season)

Game disperses across the park (more water available). Sightings harder but the park is green, baby animals everywhere, dramatic skies. Different trip — better for photographers than first-time wildlife enthusiasts.

    Avoid

Christmas / New Year — Etosha is hot (38°C+) and busy with South African family holidaymakers. Lodge rates peak. Game viewing harder than other months.
