Yes you can. Here's the paperwork, the costs, and the gotchas at the Mohembo border post.

    Cross-border permission

Most Namibian rental companies allow Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa with a pre-issued cross-border letter. Request it at booking โ€” it takes 48 hours to process and can't be added at vehicle handover.

    Costs at the border

Botswana road tax: ~BWP 130. Third-party insurance: ~BWP 50. Carbon emissions tax: ~BWP 200. All payable in cash (Pula or USD). Total around USD 30.

    Documents

Passport, driving licence, cross-border letter from rental company, vehicle registration (in the glovebox), green card insurance (rental provides).

    Practical tips

Cross Mohembo or Ngoma early โ€” afternoon queues at Ngoma get long. No fresh meat or dairy crossing in either direction (foot-and-mouth controls). Fuel is cheaper in Botswana โ€” fill up after the border, not before.
