Cooking While Camping in Namibia — Real Meals, Not Two-Minute Noodles

What to buy where, how to use the gas stove, and three meal templates that work every night on the road.

    Where to shop

Big Spar / Pick n Pay supermarkets in Windhoek and Swakopmund — full grocery range. Smaller towns (Solitaire, Sesriem, Uis, Okahandja) have basics only. Stock up before leaving Windhoek.

    The three reliable meals

Boerewors + grilled vegetables + bread roll (braai dinner). Pasta + tinned tomatoes + onion + garlic (rainy night). Eggs + tomato + chorizo + tortilla (any breakfast). All work on the 2-burner gas stove.

    Braai vs gas

Most Namibian campsites have a braai pit. Buy a 5kg bag of charcoal in Windhoek, it'll do the trip. Cook on gas when you're tired; braai when you have an hour. The kit gives both.

    The fridge

Set it to 4°C. Meat goes in the deepest part. Beer in the door. Charge the dual battery by driving at least an hour a day — the fridge will die overnight otherwise.
