Most clients we send camping in Namibia are doing it for the first time. Here's the kit list that's survived 200+ trips.
Rent it — don't fly with it
Roof tent or ground tent, mattresses, sleeping bags (0°C-rated), camp chairs and table, 60L fridge with dual battery, 2-burner gas cooker + gas, cooking set, plates, cutlery, jerry cans, recovery kit. All standard in our camping-equipped Hilux.
Fly with it
Sleeping bag liner, inflatable pillow, fast-drying towel, head torch + spare batteries, basic first-aid kit, knife (Leatherman / Opinel), power bank. Camera gear: extra batteries (cold mornings kill them) and microfibre cloth for dust.
The little things first-timers miss
A buff or scarf for dust. Sun-cream. Lip balm (the dry air will crack lips inside 48 hours). A 5L water container. Earplugs (campsite jackals at 3am). Gaffer tape.
