Spitzkoppe rises 700m off the gravel plains north of Usakos. The community-run campsites scattered around its base are some of the rawest, most photogenic camping anywhere in Africa.
The sites
About 30 numbered pitches, each tucked between granite boulders. No electricity. Long-drop toilets. A single tap at the gate. Bring everything you need, including drinking water.
Best pitches
Sites 1–8 are closest to the Rock Bridge — sunset shoot territory. Sites 25–30 are quieter, on the western face, better for sunrise. Arrive by 14:00 to pick — peak season fills by 16:00.
Spend one full day
Climb to the Rock Bridge before sunrise. Drive the loop track to Bushman's Paradise mid-morning. Rest in shade through the heat. Sunset at the eastern face. Two nights is better than one.
