What to do when it happens
Don't brake hard. Grip the wheel firmly, ease off the accelerator, let the vehicle slow gradually, and steer to a flat shoulder. Most rollovers happen because the driver brakes hard on gravel after a rear blowout.
The change
Engage the handbrake. Block the diagonal opposite wheel. Get the jack out (Hilux jack is under the rear seat). Loosen wheel nuts BEFORE jacking. Jack on the jacking point only (under the chassis rail, NOT the diff).
Two spares for a reason
Every Hilux we supply carries two spares. If you blow a second tyre, you keep moving. If you'd carried one, you're stuck waiting for recovery — sometimes 6+ hours in remote areas.
Reporting it
Phone the rental desk. They'll dispatch a replacement tyre to the nearest lodge or fuel station within 24 hours. Insurance covers it if you weren't speeding on undesignated tracks.
