Almost every Namibia lodge offers an afternoon 'sundowner drive' — a 2-3 hour game drive ending at a viewpoint with G&Ts and snacks as the sun sets. They're often dismissed as touristy. They shouldn't be.
What you actually get
The best photographic light of the day (golden hour into blue hour), wildlife activity peaking, a guide who actually lives in the area, and the social bonus of meeting other guests over a drink.
Where they shine
Damaraland (dramatic boulder landscapes), Etosha-adjacent lodges (Onguma, Mokuti), Sossusvlei lodges (dune viewpoints), Waterberg (plateau views).
When to skip
If you're already inside Etosha — your own self-drive at dusk is better. Otherwise, book one for every region. Around NAD 500–800 pp, often included in higher-end lodge rates.
