The full Skeleton Coast scenic flight runs from Swakopmund out over the Atlantic, north along the Skeleton Coast National Park to Cape Cross and the wreck-strewn beaches, then inland over the Brandberg or back via the dune sea.
What you see
Shipwrecks bleached by 60 years of sand. Massive Cape fur seal colonies stretched for kilometres. The orange dunes meeting black volcanic mountains. Dry riverbeds running like green snakes through the desert. From 1,500ft this is one of Earth's strangest landscapes.
Logistics
Two operators: Wings over Africa and Sefofane. Cessna 210 or Pilatus PC-12. 3–4 hours total with one or two landings on remote airstrips. Book one of the front passenger seats for the photography — middle row windows have less view.
Worth it for
Photographers, geography nerds, and anyone whose Namibia trip skips the Skeleton Coast section by road. Skip if you're tight on budget — Sandwich Harbour delivers similar dunes-meet-ocean on the ground for a third the price.
