Yes, more than you'd think. The trails, the races, and how lodges accommodate fitness travellers.

    Running

Most lodges have walking trails (Mowani, Hoada, Kalahari Anib). Run at sunrise — by 09:00 it's hot. The Swakopmund seafront promenade is a flat, scenic 8km loop. Avoid running in Etosha or any unfenced bush.

    Cycling

Lodge bikes available at Damaraland Camp, several Gondwana lodges, Mowani. Mostly short cruisers — not for serious cyclists. Bike Namibia organises proper road and gravel tours if cycling is the trip.

    Big events

Desert Dash (December, 369km Windhoek to Swakopmund in 24 hours — legendary). Nedbank Cycle Challenge (April). Sossusvlei Half Marathon (June). Combine race with a 14-day self-drive afterwards.

    Practical

Altitude is mild (1,700m at Windhoek). Drink 1L more water per day than at home. Sun protection on every run. Never run on gravel roads — vehicle dust makes you invisible.
