    Heat, school holidays, lodge availability, game viewing. The trade-offs for travelling Namibia with kids.

    Avoid December and January

    Hottest months (38°C+), wettest, South African school holidays mean lodges full of local families. Kids meltdown in the heat. Skip these unless you have no choice.

    Best window: late April to June

    Mild days (22–26°C), warm-enough nights, schools mostly back (UK Easter aside), lodges have availability. Etosha game viewing improving. The sweet spot.

    July to early September

    Cold nights (0–4°C) — manageable with proper layers but kids notice. Peak prices, peak crowds. Game viewing at its best. Workable but not ideal.

    School holiday windows that work

    Easter (March–April) and October half-term hit Namibia's good months. UK summer holidays (late July–Aug) are peak Namibia season — fine but expensive.
