Walvis Bay to Swakopmund — Best Stops on the 30km Drive

There's more to do on this short coastal hop than most travellers realise. Five worthwhile stops.

Dune 7

150m of pure sand, 5 minutes off the road. Climb it for the view (30 minutes). Sand-boarders rent boards at the base.

On the lagoon road north of Walvis Bay. Park, walk to the edge, hundreds of flamingos within 20m. Free, best in golden hour.

Pink salt pans north of Walvis Bay. Surreal, photographic, especially around sunset.

Beach bar on the Swakopmund side, your feet in sand, sundowner with sea spray. The local favourite end-of-day spot.

Swakopmund's wooden pier extends over the Atlantic. Dinner at the end of the pier as the sun drops behind waves.
