Game meat, biltong, oryx steaks, Swakopmund seafood, German bakeries. A traveller's food map.

    Windhoek

Joe's Beerhouse for the classic Namibian game-meat platter (oryx, kudu, springbok, zebra, crocodile). Stellenbosch Wine Bar for a smaller, refined evening.

    Swakopmund

German legacy — bakeries with proper brötchen, apple strudel, kuchen. Seafood at the Jetty or Kücki's Pub. The Tug for sundowner oysters.

    On the road

Solitaire Bakery's famous apple pie (en route Sesriem). Fuel-station biltong (the dried beef snack of the country — get peppered). Lodge half-board dinners are universally excellent.

    Self-catering staples

Bread, eggs, oryx mince, peppers, onions, garlic — works as breakfast, lunch or dinner in any combination. Buy at Spar in Windhoek or Swakopmund.
