    Information updated: June 2026

Namibia changed its visa policy on 1 April 2025. Citizens of most European countries, the UK, USA and Canada now require a visa to enter โ€” this used to be visa-free up to 90 days. Make sure any older guide you read post-dates April 2025.

    Who needs a visa now

Most European nationals, UK, USA and Canada citizens now require a Namibian visa. Cost: N$1,600 (approximately โ‚ฌ82 / US$90), valid 30 days, multiple entry. SADC nationals (including South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia) remain visa-exempt.

Apply online in advance โ€” strongly recommended

Use the official Namibian e-Visa portal at eservices.mhaiss.gov.na. Online applications are processed in a few business days and you arrive with an approved visa in hand โ€” no airport queue. Visa-on-arrival is still available at Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) and Walvis Bay, but a N$400 manual processing service fee applies and queues at peak times can be long.

    What your passport must have

At least 6 months validity beyond your intended departure date, and at least 3 blank pages. Same as before.

    Travelling with children

Children under 18 require a full unabridged birth certificate. If only one parent travels, a notarised parental consent letter is required. This rule is enforced โ€” bring the documents.

    Yellow fever

Required only if you've transited >12 hours through a yellow-fever-risk country in the previous 6 days. Most travellers from Europe, North America, Australia and South Africa do not need it.

    Arrival at Hosea Kutako

Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) is small and efficient. With an approved e-Visa, immigration takes 15โ€“30 minutes. On-arrival applicants should add 30โ€“60 minutes at peak times. Our airport transfer driver meets you in arrivals โ€” our rental partner delivers the 4x4 to your lodge the next morning, fully briefed.
