Single-driver Namibia trips: how to manage fatigue, when to add a second driver, and the routes that get exhausting fast.

Plenty of Namibia trips have only one licensed driver. It works fine for the 10-day classic loop. Beyond that, single-driver fatigue becomes a real factor.

Limit drive days to 4 hours

Solo drivers tire on gravel faster than on tar. Keep daily distance under 350km. That means adding 1โ€“2 nights vs a two-driver itinerary.

    Schedule rest days

After every two drive days, plan a day at the lodge with no driving. Pool, book, activity from camp. The trip is much more enjoyable for both passengers.

    Where it gets hard

Caprivi, Fish River extensions, or any route over 14 days as solo driver. At that point, add a second licensed driver at booking โ€” small extra cost, saves the trip.
