Worth buying
Himba-style woven baskets (Caprivi craft markets). Damara wooden carvings (roadside stalls in Damaraland — buy direct, not in Windhoek). Springbok / kudu leather goods (Penduka in Windhoek, fair-trade workshop). Namibian gin or Tafel craft beers at the airport duty-free.
Skip
Mass-produced 'African' figurines at airport (mostly imported from Kenya/Zimbabwe). Cheap soapstone (often Zimbabwean, falsely labelled). Big-cat skins or bone products — illegal to export.
Tip on pricing
Roadside craft sellers expect a polite negotiation — start at 60% of asked, settle around 70–75%. At fixed-price shops (Penduka, Bushman Art Gallery), the price is the price.
Customs
EU/UK/USA allow most craft items. Anything wooden may need a phytosanitary declaration — keep receipts. Leather goods are fine if commercially produced.
