What works, what doesn't, and the SIM setup that's most painless for visiting travellers.

    Coverage

MTC has the best coverage — strong on main tar roads and around lodges. Patchy on remote gravel and inside Etosha (signal at camps, none on game drives). Sossusvlei, Damaraland and Kaokoland are mostly offline.

    Local SIM

MTC kiosk at Hosea Kutako airport. NAD 100 buys SIM + 5GB data, valid 30 days. Bring an unlocked phone and your passport.

    eSIMs

Airalo, Holafly and Yesim all offer Namibia eSIMs — more expensive than a local MTC SIM but instant setup and no kiosk queue. Best for short trips.

    Lodge WiFi

Most lodges have WiFi at reception — patchy speeds, usable for WhatsApp. Don't count on it for video calls or uploads.
