    Books — the essentials

    'Skeleton Coast' by John Henry Marsh (the diamond era and the wrecks). 'The Healing Land' by Rupert Isaacson (Bushman traditions, deeply moving). 'Born to Run' by Hannes Pieters (Namibian ultrarunning, oddly addictive).

    Fiction

    'The Pale Criminal' by Philip Kerr (German-era flavour, set partly in former South-West). Henning Mankell's late novels touch southern Africa thoughtfully.

    Films / docs

    'Mad Max: Fury Road' (filmed in Swakopmund's dunes — you'll recognise the landscapes). David Attenborough's 'Africa' episode covering the Skeleton Coast. 'The Last Lions' (Botswana but the lion behaviour is the same).

    Music

    Damara punch (Damara cultural music — Spotify playlists exist). Tafel Lager beer ads from the 80s (deeply Namibian humour).
