    Choosing where to go in Namibia

    First-time visitors usually focus on three things: the red dunes at Sossusvlei, wildlife at Etosha on a guided safari, and the Atlantic coast around Swakopmund. A 10-day self-drive route comfortably covers all three plus Damaraland for desert elephants and rock art. From 14 days you can add Fish River Canyon and the Kalahari in the south; from 18–21 days the Caprivi (Zambezi) Region opens up for water-based wildlife and a Victoria Falls add-on. We'll guide you on what to leave out — Namibia is bigger than it looks and over-packing the route is the most common first-trip mistake.

    When to visit each region

    Etosha is best for game viewing in the dry months (May–October) when wildlife concentrates at waterholes. Sossusvlei is rewarding year-round but coolest in winter. The coast is misty and chilly most of the year — pack a jacket. Caprivi peaks for birdlife from November to April when summer migrants arrive, but roads can be wet.
