Three private reserves border Etosha: Onguma (east), Ongava (south, sharing the Andersson Gate area), and Mushara (east). All offer the Etosha wildlife corridor plus their own private game drives.
What you get extra
Guided open-vehicle game drives (instead of self-driving). Off-road driving (Etosha NP doesn't allow it). Night drives (NP only allows them from NWR camps, with restrictions). Smaller guest numbers.
What you give up
The flexibility of self-drive in Etosha NP. The big floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo (private reserves have waterholes but smaller). 30–60% higher rate.
The mix that works
2n inside NWR Etosha (self-drive the park) + 1n Onguma (guided, sundowners, fine dining). You get both formats and the trip peaks at the right moment.
